A Lemur with Universal Paper Guide (UPG) uses two sensors to aid in positioning the media within the printer.

  • Load Opto – This is located on the front part of the UPG rail (media exits the printer) and has a yellow dot. This sensor is responsible for detecting if there is media loaded into the printer.

  • Cut/Tear Opto – This is located towards the rear (media is loaded into the printer) of the UPG rail and normally has no dot. This sensor is responsible for detecting the black timing mark on the back of the media.

The below review how to replace the sensor.

  1. Make sure power is off and the AC cord is disconnected from the printer.

  2. The sensors are located on the rail that has a red dot on it. Denote the current location of the sensor you are replacing so you know where to position the replacement sensor.

  3. The opto sensor you are replacing needs to be slid towards the larger takeout opening in the rail. This opening is located about 1.125” behind the opening that is above the load opto.

  4. Once the sensor gets to the larger takeout opening, gently remove it from the rail.

  5. Gently unplug the wire connector from the sensor. Wire colors may vary from photo.

  6. Gently plug the wire connector into the new sensor.

  7.  Insert the opto sensor tab into the larger takeout opening on the rail. While firmly holding the sensor against the rail and slide it to the desired location. The load sensor needs to be slid fully forward, towards media exit, so it is under the sensor opening. The cut/tear sensor needs to be slid back, towards where the media is fed into the printer, to the position noted in step #2. You may adjust this sensor to achieve the desired cut or tear position.
