The font encoding command permanently sets the font encoding used with special two-byte character fonts. This feature is set at the factory and should normally not be changed.

The available options are:

None (default)

EUC-8

EUC-7

UNICODE-1

UNICODE-2

BIG-5

YANGJAE (obsolete)

SJIS

GBK (not available on FGL42 series)

UTF-8 (FGL46M56 or FGL46N18 or FGL46R1 and higher, not available on FGL46G and FGL44 series)

If you do need to change the font encoding setting please follow the steps below:

To change the font encoding via the control panel:

  1. Depress both the MENU and CHOICES buttons while turning on the printer. Keep both buttons depressed until “FACTORY MENU” appears in the LCD window or the display starts scrolling through different topics.
  2. Using the MENU button scroll down to the “FONT ENCODING?” topic.
  3. Using the CHOICES button select the desired setting (for example UTF-8). Once you have done this press the TEST button to confirm.
  4. The display should show “EXIT AND SAVE?” press the TEST button a second time. The printer should reset itself.

If you need to change the font encoding on a printer without a display you can send a command to the printer via the interface. You may use the Boca configuration and test tool, in this program you can use the “Send text” option to send one of the following commands in ASCII format.
